Issues concerning the forest ecosystem affect our way of life.

And so much more...

Thanks to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), you have a voice in what happens to national forests. The Bitterroot, neighboring forests and their wildlife and fisheries need your assistance. Please become involved.

Climate Change is driving many changes to the ecosystem and should also change the way forests are protected. See Climate Change Implications for more info.

Fire Myths and the fear of fire is often used to justify timber sales, but little is said of the role of fire on the landscape or the efficacy of commercial logging to mitigate fire. See Fire Science for more info.

Roads are a big problem on the Bitterroot National Forest. See pictures of the debris flow on Willow Creek Road and a write up of roads to ruin on the Flathead National Forest.

Logging and Climate Change

Logging has dire implications for climate change. Read our report HERE.

Current Timber Sales

Forest Timber Sales affect wildlife, fisheries, clean water, clean air, visual quality, carbon sequestration and many more important resources in the Bitterroot and nearby forests. At this time BNF is virtually putting up the entire forest to various commercial timber sale projects. This is possibly the most commercial logging in the history of the area. This will change the visual appearance of our valley and cause irreparable damage to old growth, roadless areas, wildlife and fisheries.
