Please comment on the proposal to change the Travel Management Rule

The Travel Management Rule has protected, forests, watersheds, and wildlife for over 20 years. It should be retained and strengthened. Thank you for protecting wildlife and wild places by taking a few minutes to comment on this proposal.

You are welcome to use the following talking points, but put them in your own words to make them unique to you. You might also describe your experiences on public lands and why protecting them is important to you.

Suggested talking points:

  1. I support the current Travel Management Rule and want it strengthened not weakened.
  2. The Environmental Impact Statement must explain and justify why the proposal rejects the sound, science-based reasoning that established the Travel Management Rule 20 years ago. Since then, new types of OHVs have emerged and use has increased. Now more than ever, the Travel Management Rule is necessary to protect public lands.
  3. The Rule protects access for all users. It creates clear, dependable, maintained routes for motorized users. It also ensures that hikers, hunters, anglers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, families, and wildlife are not pushed aside by unmanaged vehicle use.
  4. The established travel plans were carefully developed with extensive public involvement. They should be maintained and strengthened, not derailed.
  5. The public must be a part of the process concerning any changes to the Travel Management Rule and current travel plans. The process must be transparent and the public must be given ample time to comment.
